Hello Kiki

Wearing: Burka (Appropriate Clothing)

Finally…my photos from Abu Dhabi Grand Mosque, I have been saving these photos for some time now.

Visiting the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is an experience that cannot be missed! I am so happy that we decided to extend our trip for another 2 days in United Arab Emirates to witness this amazing architecture. When I travel I always want to explore the life of locals and to really feel and breath their daily way of life.  The Grand Mosque is both a sacred site for worshiping Muslims and for enthusiastic tourist.  The architecture here is simply breath taking with attention to detail second to none.  No expense here has be spared as the place is almost completely built from marble, which I guess is why it attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year because it is so amazing to see something so beautiful built in what would have to be some of the Earth’s harshest conditions.  (it is also home to the worlds largest single piece of carpet.  So the tour guide told me.  And yes it truly a sight to see in itself.) This Mosque has the capacity to hold 40,000 worshippers and has one of the world’s largest chandeliers. Being at this Mosque to me completely made my trip to UAE worthwhile as I got to explore and learn so much about a culture that is so foreign to me.

An important things you must remember when visiting the Grand Mosque is to dress appropriate as they will deny you entrance if you are not dressed appropriately.  Fashion wise what you where is completely irrelevant here and you are not allow to wear shoes inside the Prayer Hall. So it is very important to plan ahead and also find out the schedule for when they have a free guided tour of the Mosque as it is well worth and visiting during this time to learn all the history. It was such a great experience as I learnt so much about the Grand Mosque as well as the Emirate people and their Muslim beliefs. My perception has been completely altered after my visit and I am so happy to have my eyes wide open now to this beautiful culture. I encourage all to embrace a new culture in their life as you might be surprised to find out just how similar we all are.

One lesson I learnt was to not be afraid of what I don’t know or understand but to seek and embrace wisdom instead.

The Grand Mosque is a truly magnificent building and I only wish that I got to spend more time walking around but it, however the elements were against me that day being 45 degrees outside and wearing full length clothing plus a burka. The heat really started to get to me. We exited the Mosque and ran to the closest taxi to cool down in the air conditioning.  I hope you enjoy the photos I’ve taken of this beautiful building and will be posting more photos of the inside of the Mosque shortly so stay tuned.
